Turkish psych pioneers BaBa ZuLa return to ALICE to celebrate three decades as a band, promising an audiovisual show packed with Anatolian grooves and an eccentric live performance.
The band emerged on the Istanbul rock scene in 1996, blending oriental instruments such as electric saz, darbuka and percussion spoons with modern electronic textures into what they call "Istanbul psychedelic". Their near-ritual live shows have incorporated theatre, poetry readings, belly dancers, costumes and live drawing.
Heavily improvised, every concert is different. Past guests have included Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten), Jaki Liebezeit (Can) and Semiha Berksoy, and the band has worked with ALICE regular Mad Professor. Their most recent release on Glitterbeat Records is İstanbul Sokakları (2024). They have previously played Roskilde Festival, Global and ALICE.
