Traversée brings together an unusual quartet: a trombone, a tuba, a cello and percussion. No repertoire exists for this combination, so the musicians create their own.
The four soloists, all members of the Orchestre national de Montpellier, transcribe and reinterpret works rather than staying strictly faithful to the originals, giving them a new poetic coherence.
The programme spans eras and styles, from Handel's baroque music to 20th-century composers such as Bartók, Bernstein and Holst. Each arrangement stands as a work in its own right.
