This introductory intaglio engraving workshop is led by Valérie Salerno (also known as Vale), a visual artist and graphic designer trained at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Bologna, Italy. No prior drawing experience is required, and the session welcomes participants of all ages — adults and children from 8 years old (accompanied).
Over approximately three hours, participants explore every stage of the engraving process: designing the motif, working the matrix, and printing their own impressions. Simple materials — papers, needles, inks, scissors and matrices — are used to create richly detailed images.
Valérie's work investigates the subjectivity of human perception, creating visuals whose form and meaning shift depending on viewing distance. Her practice spans painting, engraving and graphic design, informed by years working in design, communication and events in Italy and Paris before returning to her hometown of Montpellier.
