Là où je me terre follows Caroline Dawson's story of exile. On 24 December 1986, seven-year-old Caroline and her family land in Montreal after escaping Chile and General Pinochet's military dictatorship. They are housed among other refugees at the Ramada hotel, where even Passe-Partout pays a visit.
From Valparaíso to Hochelaga, the story follows Caroline through francisation class, the cruelty of the schoolyard and the shifting codes of popular culture as she tries to become the model immigrant. It also asks what this costs her parents, especially her mother Natalia, who works as a cleaner in wealthy homes.
Nathalie Doummar (Mama, Frères) wrote the adaptation. Québéco-Guatemalan Nicolas Gendron (L'enfance de l'art – Doigts d'auteur de Marc Favreau) directs an intercultural team. The production is presented in the Salle Denise-Pelletier at Théâtre Denise-Pelletier as part of Festival Voix Mortes 2026.
