Les Petites Filles modernes - Joël Pommerat

Joël Pommerat, a two-time Molière winner for best living French-language author, presents his new creation Les Petites Filles modernes (working title). The piece explores the hidden mysteries of childhood. It follows two high-school girls who meet and size each other up with the intensity, and sometimes the cruelty, of adolescence. They then choose to live out a friendship pact they believe is unbreakable.

The girls defy authority and the adults who want to separate them, and the story moves beyond the limits of body and mind. Pommerat describes the form as 'theatre-novel': events are told as they are lived. The staging uses chiaroscuro lighting, dark or almost empty spaces, and hypnotic video projections. Magic, the fantastic and the supernatural are treated seriously and experienced in the present.

Pommerat and his Compagnie Louis Brouillard have often visited Ottawa, Quebec City and Montreal. This is their first visit to Théâtre Denise-Pelletier, as a special out-of-series presentation. Pommerat won the 2026 Molière for direction (public theatre). The show runs about 1h20 in the Salle Denise-Pelletier.
