Tutu

Tutu is a show conceived and choreographed by Philippe Lafeuille, performed by six dancers from his company Chicos Mambo. Having drawn over 800,000 spectators and won the Audience Award for Dance at the 50th Festival Off d'Avignon, the show continues to tour across France.

Spanning 20 distinct tableaux, the production explores the full spectrum of dance: classical ballet, contemporary, sports, rhythmic gymnastics, acrobatics, ballroom, and television-style dance. The six performers display exceptional versatility and technical virtuosity, with some even mastering pointe work.

The show is rich in witty references to dance history, from Pina Bausch to Danse avec les stars, and takes a comedic yet affectionate approach — including a gloriously wobbly take on Swan Lake. Beyond the humour and spectacle, the show also challenges clichés around masculinity in a sharp, playful way.

Nearly a decade after its creation, Tutu remains as fresh and relevant as ever, now widely regarded as a modern classic of French dance theatre. The performance takes place at Le Corum, Salle Berlioz, Montpellier, at 20:00.
