Das Rote follows a fictional young Chinese woman's journey from China to Berlin — a passage between tradition and (sexual) freedom. Performers Mu Wang and Yumo Cheng bring the character to life, tracing her story from birth and early unconscious self-discovery, through the experience of menstruation, to an exploration of physical pain as pleasure.
The piece draws on the artists' own experiences and traumas related to queer culture, Generation Z migration and the BDSM scene. Each chapter of the woman's life is rendered through choreography inspired by BDSM aesthetics.
