TIDSÅNDERNES HUS

TIDSÅNDERNES HUS is a unique live theatrical experiment in which writer and performer Madame Nielsen dramatises her own controversial novel of the same name, playing herself in the central role. The production takes place in three separate stagings across its run at Betty Nansen Teatret.

The story follows a Danish artist who travels abroad to achieve a celebrated triumph at a prestigious theatre, only for the success to unravel into scandal: she is expelled from her own hit production, accused of dishonouring Denmark and mistreating colleagues.

With each restaging, the piece evolves — growing more radical, more unpredictable and more populated with characters. What begins resembling autofiction gradually transforms into a many-voiced show trial in which Madame Nielsen allows an expanding cast of accusers, judges, victims and perpetrators to speak, all brought to life by some of Denmark's most accomplished actors.

The production does not seek to determine who was right or wrong, but to understand what truly happened — between people, within a theatre, and within a cultural climate in which everyone battles for the right to define the truth. It is described as a tragedy about those who are determined to do good at any cost, and who, for that very reason, keep repeating the same mistakes.
