Under dybet (Beneath the Deep) is a sensory theatrical experience that wowed audiences at its 2024 premiere. The production is a close collaboration between the worlds of ballet, drama and music, and serves as a tribute to the bright and dark forces of human existence told across three acts — birth, sexuality and death.
Composer Jeanett Albeck has created a personal 'pop bible' of well-known hits and newly composed songs, performed live on stage by, among others, five older opera singers and five trombonists. In front of them, five travellers set out into the world in search of a meaningful role in life, confronting life's great turning points, disappointments, desires, grief and the realisation that growing up means letting the perfect world die.
The production is directed by theatre director Anja Behrens with set design by Christian Albrechtsen. Choreography is by Sebastian Kloborg and Oliver Marcus Starpov. The result is neither ballet, spoken theatre nor classical concert, but a fusion that opens up the deepest emotions.
Recommended for ages 12 and above. Tickets are available through Det Kongelige Teater's box office.
