Folkesang is a monthly community sing-along held at Folketeatret, the theatre in Copenhagen. It is open to anyone who enjoys singing with a group, whether you are confident in your voice or would rather simply join in. Singers range from beginners who find it hard to hit the notes to trained professionals, and the atmosphere is welcoming to all of them.

What to expect

The session is led by conductor Nenia Zenana, with pianist Mads Strandgaard accompanying the group. Each month brings a selection of songs chosen for that particular day. The repertoire draws on the Højskolesangbogen, the Danish folk high school songbook, and also includes pop songs, so you may find something familiar alongside material that is new to you.

  • When: once a month. The bar opens at 16:00 and the singing starts at 17:00.
  • Where: the Store Scene at Folketeatret.
  • Who: all abilities, from first-time singers to professionals.

Making a visit of it

Because the bar opens an hour before the singing begins, you can arrive early, settle in with a drink, and get to know the people around you before the session starts. It makes a sociable afternoon or early evening for a small group of friends, or for anyone visiting Copenhagen who would like to take part in something local and informal.

For the latest details on upcoming sessions, check the event page on the Folketeatret website.
