Luc Beauséjour leads a concise 25-minute journey through the biography of Johann Sebastian Bach, structured around the four cities most closely associated with the composer's life and creative output.
The lecture begins in Eisenach, where Bach was born into a family of musicians and received his earliest musical impressions. It then moves to Weimar, where the young Bach established himself as a virtuoso organist, gained the patronage of princes, and began to refine his compositional voice.
The programme continues in Köthen, a period marked by greater instrumental freedom that produced landmark works including the Brandenburg Concertos and The Well-Tempered Clavier. Finally, the lecture turns to Leipzig, the city where Bach spent the last decades of his life creating his monumental cantatas, Passions, and other major works of his mature period.
The event takes place at Off-Festival Bach, 3487 Boul. Saint-Laurent, Montreal, as part of Festival Bach 2026.
