Luc Beauséjour presents a mini-conference devoted to Bach's Goldberg Variations, one of the most celebrated works in the history of keyboard music. Published in 1741, the piece takes a deceptively simple aria as its starting point and builds thirty variations around it, each opening onto a different world of style, character and technique.
The lecture will guide listeners through the secret architecture of the work, illuminating sophisticated canons, light-hearted dances, moments of sheer virtuosity, and passages of near-mystical depth. Selected excerpts will be heard along the way to illustrate the most striking passages.
The event is part of the Off-Festival Bach programme and takes place on November 29, 2026, at 15:15 at Off-Festival Bach, 3487 Boul. Saint-Laurent, Montreal.
